New Norwegian national team coach Petter Thoresen has named 26 players for his first squad that will convene in mid-August in view of the Olympic Qualification.

The roster includes two goaltenders – a third netminder will be added later –, nine defencemen and 15 forwards including NHL forward Andreas Martinsen of the Colorado Avalanche and Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers. 17 of the 26 players join from club teams abroad, 11 from neighbouring country Sweden.

Among the players is also the new head coach’s son, former NHL forward Patrick Thoresen, who plays for the ZSC Lions Zurich in Switzerland.

The team will practise in Oslo from 10-14 August and then play in Stromstad, Sweden, in a pre-season tournament with Swedish club teams Farjestad Karlstad and Frolunda Gothenburg.

The second camp will take place 23-28 August in Oslo where Norway will play two exhibition games against Austria on 27 and 28 August.

The Final Olympic Qualification will take place 1-4 September and be played in three groups with the group winner earning a spot in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Norway will host one group at the classic Jordal Amfi rink in Norway that also includes France, Kazakhstan and Italy.
